Deployable Optics
Deployable Optics refers to using a mirror to reflect light onto an optical sensing system to increase the image resolution and quality. As an example, consider the James Webb Space Telescope that NASA is currently operating in deep space. In order to see distant galaxies in viable resolution, James Webb Space Telescope extends a mirror in front of it’s optical sensing instrument to focus and reflect the light onto the sensor in higher detail. Without it’s deployed optical mirror, the James Webb Space Telescope would not be able to collect information with sufficient resolution.
Why does Wyvern invest in Deployable Optics?
Similar to the James Webb Space Telescope, Wyvern is invested in examining Earth’s Surface with comprehensive spectral bands in the Near-Infrared light spectrum. The spatial resolution of these sensors used to collect information in this spectrum of light is lower than traditional multispectral sensors, meaning that certain business applications cannot be addressed without higher spatial resolution. Investing in deployable optics is therefore critical to continue unlocking high-resolution hyperspectral imagery from space.
