The first [two] satellites in Wyvern’s Dragonette constellation are currently in orbit and fully operational. Wyvern is one of the few companies currently providing data scientists and analysts with reliable access to hyperspectral data. With our satellites, we are making hyperspectral imagery a valuable tool for a wide range of site monitoring, mapping, and geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) use-case applications.

Wyvern’s next generation of satellites will secure our place as the leader in space-based hyperspectral data. Equipped with our proprietary technology – deployable hyperspectral optics – they will “unfold” in orbit. By packing more optical sensors on a smaller satellite, Wyvern will deliver the highest resolution hyperspectral data while maintaining the most favorable unit economics in the industry.

Why Hyperspectral?

Hyperspectral imaging delivers information that multispectral imaging simply cannot.

Today’s optical multispectral sensors are used to detect and measure risk for field operations across industries, but they don’t provide a complete picture. They have limited optical bands, reducing the amount of data available to segment and identify unique environmental characteristics. Industries, from energy to agriculture, are therefore unable to act with the precision and urgency required to address problems at a global scale. 

Hyperspectral has more bands than multispectral, limiting spectral mixing and providing greater visibility and resolution into what’s really happening on the ground and what poses the greatest risks. Hyperspectral data also has tremendous logistical advantages — the data is more likely to interoperate with data from other sensor types, so organizations needn’t re-engineer or reinvest in new processes to harness its power. 

The level of insight that can be gleaned from hyperspectral imagery is leaps and bounds beyond what other technologies can deliver, making it especially valuable for problems that require urgent and precise action. From addressing both the causes and symptoms of climate change, to managing food security and defense operations, hyperspectral delivers what other approaches cannot.
